Rob is highly experienced in teaching all standards of players with strong emphasis on improving swing plane, downswing and impact. Using video analysis and coaching software, you will see specific areas of the swing that need attention and be guided on how to improve your technique using specific drills, swing thoughts and practice routines.

I started playing golf when I was 11 years old whilst also having a keen interest in football & swimming. My enthusiasm for golf soon took over and by the age of 18 I had attained a scratch handicap after breaking the course record at Redditch Golf Clubs (66). I also represented the Worcestershire county junior side on many occasions.

I turned Professional at 19 and became the Assistant Professional at Blackwell GC. In 1998 I became a fully qualified PGA Professional, achieving top grades in coaching. In 2000 I was delighted to gain a teaching position at The Abbey whilst also pursuing a playing career. I won several Worcestershire & Midland PGA events and in 2002 became Head Golf Professional.

I married Tracy in 2011 (we had a fantastic wedding at The Abbey!) and we have 2 children, Maisy born 2006 and Joe born 2008 who I hope both become major champions in the future! As well as enjoying raising our young family my passion has turned towards coaching whilst also managing the first class golf facilities we have here at The Abbey Hotel Golf & Spa.

My coaching ethics revolve around building solid set-up fundamentals and a good swing plane to achieve successfully repeatable golf swings!

I teach golfers of all standards and really enjoy seeing the progression of my pupils. Here are just some of my regular pupils results for 2012:

Matt Osborn - Abbey GC - Handicap reduced from 18 to 9 (Has become Bromsgrove School's youngest ever golf team Captain at 14yrs old & also recently been selected for England U16 Coaching squad trials)
Rob Banner - Junior Captain at Redditch GC - Handicap reduced from 13 to 6
Jim Finneran - Ladbrook Park - Handicap reduced from 24 to 13
Roy Allsopp - Redditch GC - Handicap reduced from 26 to 19
Gregg Holloway - Redditch GC - Handicap reduced from 24 to 19
Dave Hill - Abbey GC - (winner of Club Championship best nett) Handicap reduction 13 to 10
